Titia Ex has endeavoured to put together the images of the spatial manuscript in such a way that they give each other a context. The reflective and painted elements give the manuscript a powerful and monumental aura, which is softened by the presence of the tree that is enclosed between the houses/roads. Light and dark refer to the cycle of day and night. Layers of thoughts, associations and references is a recurring element in the artist’s work, which finds expression in her installations. Neither the object itself nor the viewer are important, but rather the space that is, or is not, situated in between. Light (natural or artificial), shade and the position of the viewer are of influence here. The space fills itself, gradually grows and becomes one with the surroundings. In this elusive intermediate area we are constantly hovering on the boundary of human thinking and knowing.
‘A road is not a house.’
