A short photo slide show (diaporama) of Ladakh, which is a mountain region in north-west India. Located north of the Great Himalaya Range it is isolated from the summer monsoon rains. Its high altitude, dry landscape reminds that of the western Tibet. Its unique culture, ethnics of the people and the religion of the majority have strong links to Tibet too. It is a fantastic destination for those interested in Buddhism and Tibetan culture as well as in adventurous treks. The Kanji La trek in particular is a demanding and quite wild trekking route, a great alternative to the classic Padum-Lamayuru. The route has been described in my "Trekking in Ladakh" guidebook published by Cicerone Press. Photographs in this short presentation has been taken in August 2016 when I combined the two routes between Padum and Lamayuru: we walked all the way to Lingshed along the classic route and then crossed the Barmi La to follow the Kanji La route.
