ʻBlack Mountain Fortune Tellerʼ
2009, Bruce Conkle and Marne Lucas
20 x 72 x 44” sculpture with video.
-A slow-motion video portraying primitive Northwest Natives is projected onto the dark surface of a lake of used motor oil, surrounded by an impossible mountain range; addressing use of precious natural resource -oil. The imagery directly references an exhibit in the NY Natural History Museum, in which the primitive Native mannequins resemble the artists Conkle & Lucas, and alludes to both past and future civilization.
Sculpture: Video, motor oil, vegetable oil, epoxy, foam, projector, paper-mache, pigment, pump
