A film made during a residency, at the Net Loft, Polperro, a building renovated by the National Trust.
We arrive carrying rucksacks, bring some work, fragments which seem important to carry here. We do not want to fill the space, sensitive to the building, the flow around its interior, its location and history. Neither do we want an opening event, it does not seem appropriate to pre-define our response as "exhibition”. We do not know how we might further respond to a renovated building, once chapel, lighthouse, net loft and we are fine with this situation. After a few days, we begin to make new work; some whilst here and other work at our studios, bringing it back up the cliff path, each day.
All the work references our sense of place, space, history and what we bring. Detail of artwork is given toward the end of the film and fragments of the poem "coat peg world" is read throughout the film by Susan Bennetta, weaving in layers of history, personal history, storytelling and memory, recorded live at The Net Loft during our short-term residency. Susan Bennetta’s film, net loft, joint residency 2016 vimeo.com/183296503 sensitively logs the residency and contains additional material.
