This is the second of twelve selections from a two-day risk communication course by Peter M. Sandman. For a list of all twelve, see psandman.com/media.htm.
The course focuses on "outrage management" -- how to reduce people's concern about low-hazard high-outrage risks. This selection runs through the twelve principal components of outrage (voluntary versus coerced, natural versus industrial, etc.). Then it illustrates these components with a seat-of-the-pants "outrage assessment" of genetically modified food.
