EDBSL is a interactive software, video and performance installation. The video featured here is only a non-interactive demo of a few dances from the full selection of 35. A fully interactive online version is in the works
"I would like to sing for you some of these sentences that Sol Lewitt has written on conceptual art. I feel this is a tribute to him in that I think these sentences have been hidden too long in the pages of exhibition catalogs and that perhaps by my singing them for you it will bring these sentences to a much larger public.
I'll use the same ordering and numbering that he has. I'll try to pause between each statement for clarity. It may be that occasionally I'll have to sing one sentence over more than once in that I might not get the phrasing correct."
-John Baldessari, 1972
I would like to dance for you some dance routines set to songs sung by John Baldessari set to the 35 sentences that Sol Lewitt has written on conceptual art. I feel that this is a tribute to him in that I think his vocal stylings have been hidden too long in the walls of art institutions and video art websites. Perhaps by my dancing them to popular moves it will bring his songs to a much larger public.
You'll notice I have used the same ordering and numbering that Baldessari used which happens to be the same numbering and ordering originally written by Lewitt. I would also like to offer you the opportunity to click on whichever dance you would like in whatever order you would like for clarity. It may be the case that after selecting the dances you will experience additional enjoyment brought on through a principle of choice-supportive bias.
