For Gonzaga's new, state-of-the-art student union, the John J. Hemmingson Center, we created a dynamic interactive canvas for the university community to paint on together.
The 8' x 12' Zag Wall invites individuals and groups to write, draw, and dream in a communal digital notebook. Since the large scale of the installation accommodates many simultaneous users, the wall also serves as a gathering place—a destination for interaction, digital or otherwise. With just their fingertips, users can jot down their thoughts free-form or respond to a prompt provided by the university. With a custom content management system, school staff can schedule prompts to ensure their relevance, timeliness, and ability to elicit lively discussions both on the wall and off.
To reflect Gonzaga’s pride in its history, we also enabled Zag Wall users to page through messages left behind by others. The installation serves as the pulse of the community and its memory, becoming a daily diary to which anyone can contribute an entry.
