As a clean water organization, we identify areas that are generally underserved. In the context of the Philippines, as one of the most affected countries by climate change, there are many. So we prioritize the remote locations, the most disaster-prone areas where aid and relief have a hard time getting to. Going there is a journey, but we are always rewarded by the people and the island’s beauty.
We were invited to be the water expert to provide access to clean water to all 12 barangays of the Babuyan Group of Islands. About 20+ organizations were invited with the help of Go Share, Black Pencil Project, NOLCOM-AFP, Philippine Air Force, Philippine Army, Philippine Navy, PNP-Calayan, LGU and the local volunteers of the Calayan Islands.
The project was called All-in-One Bayanihan, with the goal of providing all the needs of remote locations with everything from footwear, clothing, bags, school supplies to water filters, medical equipment and even disaster resilience and emergency response trainings. This makes each mission all about equipping a community to be resilient--ready for anything.
For this project, we wanted to show you what it was like on the island.
