Artists use video to respond to In the Skin of a Lion, the novel that inspired Lazaro's Dream, a "wandering hallucination" and audio walk from the Koffler Centre of the Arts and Project Bookmark Canada, conceived and produced by Angela Shackel of Accounts and Records.
About the work
Rope to rescue a cow, to carry blue paint, to trip the rich, to sail through the air - rope that must be untied, not cut. Strips of a black tunic, a steel cable and dynamite fuse pull and release, pass each other, entangle. These are traces of lives, of life's work; taut with the daily toil of labour (and love) within the simplest repeated gesture. And through all this winds "...the thread of a hum…” to pull together the pieces of a story.
About the artists
Soft Turns is the collaborative effort of Canadian artists Sarah Jane Gorlitz and Wojciech Olejnik. The idea of an encounter with something, as an ever-changing space between the foreign and familiar, the accessible and inaccessible, is a central theme of their practice. http://www.softturns.com
