The Roof-rat or Black-rat (Rattus rattus) is a large rodent that has been introduced to BC from Europe. Rats thrive on many of the same foods that attract bears to a neighbourhood - so if you keep your yard free of bear attractants, you'll probably keep the rats away as well. This video was shot in September of 2016 in a backyard in Kamloops. The rat is shown collecting a tomato it had previously started chewing on. Tomatoes, zucchini, beets, apples and just about any vegetable, fruit , meat or pasta dish that we will feed on, the rat will find equally as appealing.
