A team of award winning designers have created a revolutionary new liferaft, designed to give survivors of ocean going disasters, the very best chance of survival in extreme circumstances.
The new liferaft, entitled, Ocean Going Survival Unit (OSU), boasts amongst its features, what they believe is the best liferaft entry system ever designed and an inherently superior stability which allows self righting capabilities when it is at full capacity or almost empty.
4cDesign, a leading Scots product and engineering design firm, are the pioneers behind the OSU, which is creating excitement amongst the maritime industry.
The ease of entry for survivors, regardless of age or ability, is achieved by removing a section of the inflated perimeter, which is held open by the inflated floor.
4c Peter Inglis (former director at 4c) said: “Our tests showed that in a swimming pool, an individual wearing a lifejacket took 20 seconds to enter a normal liferaft, with the help of two other people. The same individual stepped, unaided into the OSU in 4 seconds.”
