Friends of the Jackson County Main Library is a volunteer organization whose purpose is to promote literacy and encourage reading through support for the Jackson County Public Library.
Web Site: fojcml.org
Friends of the Library is a bookstore located on Main Street in downtown Sylva. The proceeds from the used bookstore go to support the current library and the new library complex.
The store is fully stocked with books including large print, magazines, music, and books on CD and tape, and records. It is ran by volunteers. You must be 16 years or older in order to volunteer.
The process of raising money for the library informally started in 1976 but was formally incorporated with the library in 1997.
The location of the store is now located in an old department store.
The books that are donated to the store come from anyone and everyone. There have large donations that have come from other bookstores that have unfortunately closed and the Jackson County Library will sometimes give the store duplicates of books that they have.
The store also excepts money donations that go straight to funding the library.
The store is open 7 days a week.
