Boarding Pass #3 Residency with David Merlo by Diffusing Digital Art
VARIANCE IV installation by David Merlo was presented by DDA "Boarding Pass Residency"program and Palais des paris "Electric Night vol.14" for the Mandoe matsuri 2016 in Takasaki and on the invitation of Jinganin temple.
Variance IV is an immersive sound installation wich optimizes the sonic potential of an architecture and then permits to the audience to discover a physical experience of each volume of a building.
Variance IV behaves like a living organism: able to exploit the potential of a territory -resonance- in order to maintain its own production -sound waves. It has been concepted and built to be able to analyse and transform its own activity in endless variations of sound textures and rhythmic patterns.
The building which hosts here Variance IV is a giant statue of Kannon divinity located on the Mt. Kannon, and inside of Jiganin temple (慈眼院), in Takasaki City, Japan.
Takasaki Kannon(高崎白衣大観音, takasakibyakuedaikannon) is one of the symbol of Takasaki City, Gunma. It has 41.8m high and you can enter the inside of its body. 20 buddha statues are placed inside of the Kannon.
Takasaki Kannon was built in 1936 by Mr. Inoue for bringing great and peaceful heart of Kannon, and her blessing of Kannon to the people of the world. Takasaki Kannon is loved by people in Takasaki city as the god of guardian and preserver of the city.
