baumanmedical.com - One of the latest recent medical breakthroughs in hair restoration is the use of 3D-Printed CNC or Cranial Prosthesis for patients who are not good candidates for hair transplants. Manufactured with FDA-cleared components in Bologna, Italy by Cesare Ragazzi Laboratories, the CNC is classified as a medical device by the Italian Ministry of Health. It’s use is virtually unknown here in the United States but Fox5 Las Vegas reporter Mike Doria was on-hand at the World Hair Transplant Congress with Dr. Alan Bauman to learn more.
In a 240 man-hour process that takes several months to complete, one-hundred percent unprocessed human hair (no coloring or perms) is hand-selected, matched for color, curl and length, then meticulously implanted into the CNC's flexible, lightweight, antimicrobial polymeric base or “second scalp.” The “second scalp” is customized for each patient using 3D printing technology for a perfect fit. The end result is a beautiful head of hair for alopecia patients, chemotherapy hair loss patients, and those injured in trauma or accidents. Because the prosthesis is attached with a medical-grade FDA-cleared adhesive, it can be enjoyed by patients who are very physically active. Actors, entertainers, dancers, athletes can all enjoy swimming, shampooing, styling their hair once again without fear of detection or detachment. Short monthly service visits are required to keep the hair system and scalp in good condition.
At the ISHRS – International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery World Hair Transplant Congress, Dr. Alan Bauman presented his patient, Ivory, who suffered from a combination of two types of alopecia—Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia (CCCA) and Traction Alopecia (TA). Ivory, a female African-American patient, was treated with a combination of hair transplantation to the frontal and temporal areas and a CNC Cranial Prosthesis in the crown area to achieve a satisfying and beautiful new head of hair. Ivory was also on hand at the Live Patient Viewing portion of the scientific conference, so the international group of physicians could examine the unique treatment combination.
