Designing for the health and welfare of those who live, work and play in our spaces extends beyond the physical spaces we design. This includes designing better experiences. Our training and understanding of these spaces enhances our ability to identify unique and unusual opportunities to relieve stress in the healthcare environment. Working with a family who wrote a short story explain what to expect when visiting the Emergency Department, one team of architects worked to translate the written word to a multi-media story. This pro bono project offers relief during a stressful and chaotic time, giving children insight into their healthcare experience.
