The Accordion’s Transplant
The Accordion's Transplant' is a low-budget documentary that follows the footsteps of 'La Damigiana' an historical folk group from Monte San Vito (Ancona - Italy) that in October 2011 have participated in the Columbus Day in New York.
The project stems from the desire to tell, at least in part, the folkloric tradition of Marche region and its presence in the contemporary social scene. 'La Damigiana', with their unmistakable appeal, are the protagonists of this surreal trip from Monte San Vito to Manhattan and their conquest of the 5th Avenue during the Columbus Day Parade.
The folk-cultural association La Damigiana was born in 1999 to promote and enhance the popular culture of the Marches. To achieve this end carries out several activities: concerts and performances with music and dancing traditional construction and design of popular musical instruments (tambourines, Segoni, castanets, ox horns, accordions, etc..), Production of various types of gadgets (pennants, postcards); lectures and seminars on accordion and tambourine.
The work of popularization of folk music has led the president of the Marche region, Stefano Amici, in 1998 to hold a meeting with students of ethnomusicology of DAMS, at the University of Bologna.
They produced several compact discs including 'Folk Songs and Marches of the inn' for the purpose of documenting their musical activity. The collection is a small sampling of their vast repertoire that can animate for hours on any kind of celebrations, festivals, banquets and concerts.
