Filmed in NYC, Camera provided by Band Pro NY. It's a FGV 7D-PL, a Canon 7D modified in Germany by FGV Schmidle. Everything was filmed with available light using Focus Optics New Ruby 14-24mm zoom lens. The only support was a set of lightweight Sachtler sticks and a nice fluid head. There is no color correction done to the footage - it is straight out of the camera. Thanks to the participants of my workshop with StudentFilmmakers.com.
Grand Prize: Free 7-day rental of the FGV 7D-PL Camera and Ruby 14-24mm Zoom
Runner Up Prize: Petrol PCBP-3 Backpack
FGV 7D-PL Camera and Ruby 14-24mm Zoom Lens Description
The FGV 7D-PL and the Ruby 14-24mm Zoom Lens were the kit that Snahel Patel used to shoot the original footage for this music
The FGV 7D-PL camera is a standard Canon 7D that has been retrofitted to take a PL mount lens. To accomplish this, the camera’s mirror is removed, as well as the optical viewfinder. This modification allows for all manner of PL mount cinematography lenses to be used on the 7D. The sensor on the 7D is equivalent to 35mm film so all cinematography lenses exhibit the expected focal length and depth of field as they would with a film camera. All other operational features are maintained, however, viewing must be done using LiveView on the rear LCD screen or via an external HDMI monitor.
The Ruby 14-24mm Zoom Lens is a fantastic example of lens engineering. A 14-24mm Nikkor still lens has been rehoused with an expanded focus ring in the traditional cinema-style rotation direction and a PL mount while maintaining the sharp, clear optics that make the Nikkor 14-24mm such a popular lens for still photography. Compared to most zoom lenses in its class, the Ruby Zoom is compact and lightweight.
