Hanzade Dogan Boyner is the chairwoman of Dogan Online, Dogan Gazetecilik, and the Dogan Foundation, as well as the vice chairwoman of Hurriyet Newspaper, Dogan Burda, and Dogan Holding. Previously, she served as the chairwoman of Petrol Ofisi A.S. Boyner continues to oversee Dogan Holding’s interests in the energy sector.
After graduating from the London School of Economics with a BSc in Economics, Boyner began her career in Goldman Sachs London’s CMT department as a financial analyst, after which she earned her MBA from Columbia Business School. In 1999, she founded Turkey’s leading internet company, Dogan Online. In 2003, she became the CEO of Dogan Gazetecilik, which included Turkey’s highest selling daily newspaper, Posta, in its portfolio. In 2006, at Petrol Ofisi, she played a role in forming a strategic partnership between Dogan Holding and Central Europe’s leading oil and gas company, OMV.
Boyner is also a founding member and vice chairwoman of the Global Relations Forum, and the vice president of the World Association of Newspapers. Boyner is also a member of the Brookings Institute’s International Advisory Council, Columbia Business School’s Board of Overseers, the European Council on Foreign Relations, the Foreign Economic Relations Board, the Association of Turkish Businessmen and Industrialists, the Young Presidents’ Organization, and the Association of Woman Entrepreneurs.
A philanthropist, Boyner is the patron of the “Daddy Send Me to School” campaign, which aims to remove economic and cultural barriers to girls’ education in Turkey. The campaign has successfully raised funds to grant 10,500 scholarships and to build 33 girls’ dormitories across Turkey.
Christopher M. Schroeder is an American entrepreneur, advisor and investor in interactive technologies and social communications.
He is author of the recent best seller, and first book on startups in the Arab World, Startup Rising — The Entrepreneurial Revolution Remaking the Middle East — with a forward by Marc Andreessen.
Schroeder was the CEO and Publisher of washingtonpost.newsweek interactive and co-founder of the Silicon Valley venture capital backed startup HealthCentral.com, sold in 2012. He is an investor in consumer facing enterprises including Vox Media, Skift, Quibb, iBotta, Zignal Labs, BrightSky Labs, Parlio among others, and as limited partner in leading Silicon Valley venture capital funds.
Schroeder serves on the board of advisers of the American University of Cairo School of Business, American University School of International Service, the Jordanian startup incubator Oasis500, and the boards of directors of the American University of Beirut, The German Marshall Fund and the American Council on Germany.He is on the Investment Committee of The Wamda Fund, one of the largest venture capital funds in the Middle East.
