Edward Quist’s long running embryoroom project has been a staple of NYC’s underground video art scene. His productions employ experimental narrative, pulsating scan-rate imagery, analog electronics, biomorphic imagery and heavily manipulated digital graphics. Known for collaborations with Finnish techno legends Pan Sonic and New York City’s Envoy Gallery, Quist’s new film The Black Vertebrate mediates the viewer between raw sensory perception and objective cognition.
Quist has exhibited and performed globally including Ikon Gallery (Birmingham), Kunsthalle Wien (Vienna), Sónar Festival (Barcelona), Avanto Festival (Helsinki), Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival, Dissonanze festival (Rome), Tampere Film Festival, MoMA PS1 (New York), The Milan Film Festival, Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art (Helsinki), Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, La Casa Encendida (Madrid), Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci (Milan), Cine Cosmos (Buenos Aires), Museo del Fumetto di Milano, Parco Sempione / Castello Sforzesco (Milan), The Envoy Gallery (New York), The Eventi (New York), The Gershwin Hotel (New York) & Iknost (Malmö).
