Demo reel -depicting a synthesis of 10hrs of performance documentation. The performance was a 72hr collaborative piece for the Subtle Technologies Festival 2007 (Toronto, Canada).
The Circadian Rhythms are that part of human physiology which, in the reception of light, acts as both a "reset button" for the sleep-wake cycle and also as the over arching "master clock" regulating all the cycles of the body. This system essentially translates the human relationship to natural light into an awareness of time.
In this work we explored the influences of "timelessness" upon the artist (the subject). To create this experience we constructed a quasi scientific experimental environment: a barricaded cell with a constant dim light source, controlled human contact, an absence of mechanical time cues and lots of materials for art creation. The subject remained in the cell for 72hrs, in contact only with their collaborator.
The artist was interested in seeing how this experience might inspire artistic production while in the cell. The scientist was interested in the cognitive state of the artist and their interpretations.
