Astrobiology is a richly multidisciplinary study that focuses on the origin of life and the search for habitable environments in the universe. It synthesizes ideas from astronomy, biology, geology, chemistry and more. It is wonderfully engaging for students and adults. This webinar details an advanced science course taught at Poughkeepsie Day School in which students were tasked with getting up to speed with a topic in the NASA Astrobiology Roadmap by working with technical papers, online lectures, and working scientists. The presentation includes the course goals (which emphasize high-order thinking skills we supported developing), the pre- and post- assessment of student progress on those skills, and how these were used to redesign the course.
