Orange Shirt Day is celebrated annually in Canada in recognition of the more than 150,000 First Nations children who were taken from their homes to attend Residential Schools over a span of more than 120 years beginning in 1876. Orange Shirt Day is also an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.
