Trailer for new documentary from C-Board Films (produced/directed by Kieran Concannon for BAI/TG4) that introduces Robert Flaherty's 'other' Irish film, the first ever made in the Irish language. 'Oiche Chaillte an tSeanchaí' tells the story behind 'Oidhche Sheanchais' (11 mins, 1935) which gets its first tv screening November 1st on TG4, 81 years after it was first shown in a handful of Irish cinemas.
A rediscovered treasure of Irish folklore and film history, it is the only film record of a genuine seanchaí practising his storytelling art from a time when that tradition still survived. It was Flaherty's first work with synchronised sound. Believed lost for many years, a print was located in Harvard University's Houghton Library in 2013.
