Today we will be looking at the unmatched authority of King Jesus as seen in His calling of the disciples; His teaching and preaching; and His mighty and miraculous works. The King uses His authority to serve, namely to deliver the oppressed and suffering as His intended means of proclaiming the purpose of His mission that would climax at the Cross. As we work through Mark 1.16-45, be sure to pay careful attention to the ways in which Jesus exercises His authority and how through His authoritative action the Kingdom of God is seen breaking in! Lastly, in our passage we see that the motivation for Jesus' ministry is His compassion. Jesus' ministry of love touches some of the most unlikely recipients, folks that would have been looked over and avoided by most in Jesus' day. How can we as a church imitate the compassionate ministry of Jesus by pursuing the unloved and outcast for the glory of God? May we imitate the Savior and spur one another on towards this most worthy mission!
