Modelled after the MIT Libraries Institute Archives and Special Collections, William Barton Rogers Collection, MC 1. Folder 4. December 5, 1826.
William Barton Rogers wrote this letter from Windsor, MA to his father in Virginia in 1826. He used a red starch wafer moistened with water to seal the letter shut after tri-folding it twice and puckering the shorter open-edged panel to allow the wider open-edged panel to tuck into it. The address panel has early postal marks on it that predate the gummed postage stamp.
Produced by MIT Video Productions (MVP). Directed by Jana Dambrogio, Thomas F. Peterson (1957) Conservator, MIT Libraries. Demonstrated by Ayako Letizia, MIT Libraries Conservation Associate.
