Video Essay on Yannis Economides' debut film "Spirtokouto"(imdb.com/title/tt0382988/)
All of Economides' films have been described as dialogue heavy and relying a lot on repetition of swear words but on his latest films he seems to equally focus on the silence, on the pauses between tension.
I made this small experiment of re-assembling some of the silent shots from "Spirtokouto" and attempting to see whether the tension remains. I used frames when nobody is talking/yelling on camera and some reaction shots. I did keep the incidental TV sounds.
