The Herbario de la Universidad de Panamá functions as the national herbarium of Panama. The collections include specimens of vascular plants, bryophytes, and lichens, mostly from Panama. The total of processed specimens is 62 229 and unprocessed about 52 000.
One of the main goals of the National Herbarium of Panama is the diffusion of knowledge through the information obtained from the specimens deposited in its collection. The PMA Herbarium plans to contribute more than 1500 types.
