On the day of graduation, each graduate is invited to make a formal speech that captures the essence of their experience here at our school. They didn’t just learn how to do this in 8th grade…it took years of instruction and practice.
About 10 years ago we determined that we wanted to be the school that produced students who were excellent communicators. Students who could compose well constructed essays and deliver remarks with confidence and poise. It takes deliberate instruction and lots of practice. It begins in preschool where they pass around the teddy bear and share something about themselves.
It continues in Lower School where students begin to learn to shape sentences and paragraphs and find their voice in writing. It continues through middle and upper as they present their essays to their classmates, present in assemblies, and perform in class plays.
This video will give you some insight into what our alums and teachers say about their training and exposure.
