I don't know about you, but I love a good celebration! As Christians, we have cause for celebration. In our passage today we see that Jesus' presence was reason for celebration. But why? There are two primary reasons according to our passage. One, His presence marked the fulfillment of God's promise to rescue and restore. What the Jewish people had been prayerfully longing for had finally arrived in Jesus. Along with this point, we see that Jesus, as God's provision of a Savior, had provided a new way for relating to God! Himself! No longer were God's people to look to the law, but instead, they were to NOW look to the One that the law had always pointed to-Jesus Christ! The second reason for celebrating Jesus, closely related to the first, is that Jesus had come to provide true rest! Programmed into the Sabbath was a picture of salvation, namely rest from evil and access into the peaceful presence of God! This would be the beautiful result of God's saving work in Jesus Christ-a return to God's presence! Rest in Christ today! Look to the One who alone provides access to God. If you've entered into a relationship with God through Christ and have encountered true rest in the Savior, then celebrate the King and share the good news with others!
