This video shows suturing simulation that we have developed as part of
the Virtual Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) project. This
project is a collaboration between Kitware, RPI, Simquest and
University. Suturing is one of the five FLS tasks required as part of
the certification program. The simulation aims to provide stand-alone
training environment and an automatic evaluation of the trainees based
on the creation and placement of knots, knot tightness and the elpased
time to completion. This video shows an improvement to the original
VBLAST implementation at RPI. The improvement focused on knot
detection, suture modeling, collision detection, self-contact of
suture and haptic feedback.
