Best friends, Erin Connelly and Kerry Clark Speake, saw a trend of beautiful home designs being created locally by friends and peers, as well as renowned companies they admired who’ve thrived for generations. Noticing a lack of place to find an edited selection of these goods, they set out to create The-Commons, a destination curated with American made goods for the home that express a modern sensibility. In 2015, they began developing their own glass and ceramics designs in partnership with STARworks. The Shelter collection is their modern interpretation of the mud hut dwelling, the strongest architectural shape using the least amount of materials. Designed in Charleston, SC and produced in Star, NC this is the only line of glassware manufactured exclusively in the South.
