The people of Cambodia have suffered the most horrific ordeal in recent history: The genocide of millions committed by the Khmer Rouge from 1976 to 1978.
In terms of the number of people killed as a proportion of the population (around 7.1 million people in 1975), it was the most lethal regime of the 20th century. No Cambodian in the present day lives untouched by the country's brutal and very recent history.
Today, these wounds are still raw. Almost an entire generation has been wiped out, leaving a nation of young adults to rebuild from a place of great desperation. This video was shot in January 2011 and reveals the amazing spirit of the Khmer people, and the work God is doing in these communities to bring hope and affect real, positive change.
Surprisingly, this was shot on an iPhone 4 from the back of a 4WD, using a silicon case pressed against the window for stability.
