The Skiers' Responsibility Code says that the people ahead of you have the right of way, and it is your responsibility to avoid them. But, that assumes the other people are ahead of you (and below you, vertically). However, on today's crowded slopes, too often other skiers are right next to you, which can be dangerous. Many collisions happen when people ride side by side and suddenly turn toward each other. So, be safe and maintain a vertical distance from others on the slopes.
