The San Leandro Internship Program is a collaboration among San Leandro Unified School District, San Leandro Chamber of Commerce, Eden Area ROP and partnering employers to provide work-based learning experiences to San Leandro High School students. We have four models of internship programming which are designed to suit various levels of commitment for employers, and a range of levels for students. These include:
4-Company Cyclic Internship: Rotational internship program where 2-3 students cycle through four companies and three departments for each company providing up to twelve unique experiences.
12-Company Cyclic Internship: Rotational career exploration program where a group of students cycle through twelve companies for tours and informational interviews.
Innovation Fellowship: Employers design project challenges for student innovation fellows to create solutions for during their internship experience.
Standard Internship: Your standard internship program based on projects and tasks.
These internship models range from paid to unpaid experiences. Our 2015 pilot internship program resulted in 18 employers and 27 students. And our 2016 internship program resulted in 25 employers and 55 students. For 2017, we plan to reach at least 40 employers and 100 students.
