IAT 202 Assignment 01
Cinematography by Jenni Rempel
Featuring Kayte Wilson
For this portrait assignment I aimed to document something deeper than a surface detail about my subject. I wanted to explore an intimate moment that is not usually displayed on film and really capture a human emotion.
I chose to film the project by hand as opposed to with a tripod to give the project a more intimate feel. This allowed me to get closer to my subject and give the piece a realistic documentary feel. I featured close up shots of the eyes to make them the centre of interest. In our culture the eyes are often viewed as a gateway to the soul and by drawing attention to them I hoped to reveal deeper feelings residing in my subject. I also wanted to use very intimate angles and framing to make the viewer feel closer and more connected to the subject.
