MY MUSEUM is a dedicated project and exhibition space where children take the lead.
MY MUSEUM is an introduction to the art of story-telling with objects, it opens up the gallery as a canvas on which ideas, feelings and experiences can be conveyed and inside of which children can participate in the practical and creative aspects of curating, display and exhibition making.
Objects and material culture offer up the opportunity to tell stories and represent who and what we are as people and societies. What is exciting for children is to grasp is the way in which the nature and form of the stories told change from story-teller to story-teller. Material culture being reconnected and plugged together to create different and exciting new forms as easily as Mechano.
MY MUSEUM is a resource for children in our locality, whether pupils in local schools or families that visit our site. The themes explored in MY MUSEUM exhibitions will draw inspiration from the from the artists and works from the Bold Tendencies commissioning programme or build on themes that students are exploring in their home or class-setting.
MY MUSEUM is a space where children can create and imagine, direct and control ways to represent the world they live in through the visual arts. Given the freedom to take on different themes and exhibit their ideas to the public, we believe a child’s imagination, confidence and belief in their own potential will grow.
