What’s your story?
What does Miami sound like to you? Look like to you? What sounds and sights represent your idea of home?
What is Project 305?
Beginning January 2017, share your impressions of and emotions for Miami by submitting audio and video clips of your life in Miami to the New World Symphony, America’s Orchestral Academy (NWS), as part of Project 305. Those submissions will be used to compose an orchestral work and accompanying video that will be performed by the New World Symphony. In capturing the visuals and sounds of Miami, we ask that you draw from your own personal experiences of living in the County. The final work will be reflective of Miami-Dade County as seen through the eyes of you and other Miamians.
The collaborative project–a partnership between New World Symphony, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and MIT Media Lab–is modeled after the collaborative City Symphonies created throughout the world by innovative and influential composer, inventor and educator Tod Machover, and brought to the United States by Knight Foundation.
When is it taking place?
Project 305 invites all of Miami’s communities to work alongside lead artists to create the final work. This community participation will take place for 100 days, from January 31 to May 12, 2017 through community events and workshops. Additional information about how to submit your audio and video clips and participate in the project will be available here in late January.
The work will be premiered on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the New World Center, with subsequent viewings taking place at partner venues in communities throughout Miami-Dade County. The premiere performance at the New World Center will be a WALLCAST™ concert.
Who is creating the final work?
The project’s lead artists include composer Ted Hearne and filmmaker Jonathan David Kane. Hearne and Kane will work with NWS Artistic Director and Co-Founder Michael Tilson Thomas, who will be responsible for the overall artistic direction of the work.
How can I get more involved?
We are seeking the participation of all Miami-Dade County communities with this project! Join us on December 12 from 8:00 – 9:30 AM to learn more about Project 305 and how you can help. Interested in working with the New World Symphony to bring more opportunities for music and arts participation to communities, beyond this project? We’ll be providing information on this as well.
