WebMD, in partnership with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts, in November 2016 launched an online series aimed at innovations in cancer, including a vignette on Donna Deegan’s leadership regarding The DONNA Foundation and DONNA Marathon Weekend. The segment titled “From Cancer Survivor to Community Leader” is one of five videos in the series, “The Cutting Edge of Cancer” presented by Cancer Centers of America.
Airing just three months before the 10th anniversary of DONNA Marathon Weekend, held Feb. 10-12, 2017, the segment follows Deegan’s journey from breast cancer survivor to advocate through the establishment of The DONNA Foundation, a nonprofit providing financial assistance to individuals living with breast cancer. The segment also highlights DONNA Marathon Weekend, including 26.2 with DONNA The National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer and the funds raised for breast cancer research and care through the event. Michele Morin, a Jacksonville resident and former DONNA Foundation recipient, was also interviewed for the segment, which can be viewed at webmd.com/cuttingedgecancer.
“To take what I learned through my own journey as a breast cancer survivor and improve the lives of others living with the disease through both The DONNA Foundation and DONNA Marathon Weekend is a blessing I could never have imagined,” said Deegan, journalist and three-time breast cancer survivor. “For WebMD and fellow survivor Robin Roberts to draw attention to what we are doing here in Jacksonville will only advance the cause to finish breast cancer.”
