The Berlin Wall fell unexpectedly on Nov. 9, 1989, and the whole world celebrated. But the next day brought enormous uncertainties and fears of violence. The Soviet Union had hundreds of nuclear weapons in the suddenly destabilized East Germany; West Germans saw a flood of immigrants from the East. This film tells the story of the first year after the Wall fell, and the dramatic twists and turns that led -- eventually -- to a newly unified Germany, and the lingering after-shocks of a divided nation.
