Will humans be able to we travel to Alpha Centauri? Our nearest neighbor – a star system “only” 4.37 light years from Earth – is receiving a new wave of attention: BlueKS.org.
“Traveling to Alpha Centauri?” is a short documentary from Speculative Films about a team of engineers working to develop an anti-matter propulsion system that could potentially make interstellar travel a reality within couple of decades. Proven in the lab, these scientists say the technology could enable a probe to reach Alpha Centauri, which is 25 trillion miles away, in 40 years — 1000-times faster than our current rocket technology.
Why would we go? From the Kepler data, there’s an ~85% chance we’ll find at least one Earth-like planet in the habitable zone around either Alpha Centaur A or B. New missions like Project Blue (BlueKS.org) plan to study and directly image the solar systems of both Sun-like stars in aCen by the end of the decade.
