This moving image piece is about the deconstruction of a lipstick. The concept behind it was originally the relationship we hold with the colour black. As a beauty enthusiast, this then flowed into which make up products are universally recognised as being black. A list was created involving products such as eyeliner and mascara. Thinking about products I then started thinking about lips. At first when I thought of a lipstick the colour red came to mind, then black. Red is contrasting to black as it holds just vibrancy and fire, I wanted to explore how I could make a black lipstick as exciting.
To explore into this further the idea of the process came. The opening shot is of the final shot; in medias res (opens during the midst of action). The dripping lipstick is the key shot to explain the narrative. By opening with it the film starts straight away pulling in the viewer, then cutting back to the beginning it jump-starts the narrative leading in the audience.
The shot after the dripping lipstick is the powder paint which represents the pigment that goes into a lipstick, followed by the mixing of substance and pouring. The mixing shot is juxtaposed with the rest of the film as it is mainly black with minimal white whereas throughout the whole film it is shot against white.
