The Pastor of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Terre Haute, Indiana, Fr. Daniel Bedel, talks about postapocalyptic Paradigm City, the City of Amnesia, where survivors have no recollection of the past and the most precious commodity is memory, and where the most important celebration is held on "Heaven's Day" that every thought was the day the city was founded, but were told by the Mayor that it was when God was born. Yes it is a cartoon and a figment of the imagination, a fiction, but how appropriate it is on this Advent as we prepare for the coming of Jesus. Fr. Dan reminds us how short our memory is as we become consumed with keeping up with the vagaries of the future forgetting how important our past as been in shaping our life.
