Synopsis:
Inspired by a true story, "Woman with an Editing Bench" celebrates Elizaveta Svilova, the editor of Dziga Vertov’s 1929 masterpiece "Man with a Movie Camera" (#1 on the "Sight and Sound" list of Best Documentaries of all time). By referencing Svilova’s own kinetically exhilarating montage style, “Woman with an Editing Bench” reveals her fierce tenacity and fleet thinking as she dodges the bureaucracy and sustains revolutionary filmmaking in spite of Stalin’s oppression.
