Earth's sea ice cover over the first 50 years after the planetary rotation period was suddenly reduced from 1 current day to 1 current year, so Earth is tidally locked.
Oceans on the night side of the planet do not freeze over in this period, although the temperatures are at the freezing point over oceans and lower over continents. The reason is that the entire water column needs to be cooled below freezing before sea ice can form, which takes a long time.
