DEAD AID: WHY AID IS NOT WORKING AND HOW THERE IS A BETTER WAY FOR AFRICA DAMBISA MOYO (VIDEO) NOVEMBER 8, 2010
On Monday November 8, 2010 The Terry Project had the pleasure of welcoming world renowned economist and author Dambisa Moyo to the UBC Chan Centre to talk about her international bestselling book, 'Dead Aid: Why Aid is Not Working and How There is a Better Way For Africa.'
In this talk Moyo clarifies and delves deeper into the main thesis she presents in Dead Aid - namely, that the nearly $1 trillion in aid moved by developed countries into the coffers of African governments over the past five decades has not only failed to produce long-term economic growth, but prevented it. With passion and searing wit, Moyo refutes the current aid model promoted by policy makers and celebrities while proposing alternative, proven solutions for growth in Africa based on trade, foreign investment, and financial markets.
