HIdeaways is part of an ongoing travelling exhibition - Topologies of Transformation.
„The form of a city changes faster, alas, than a mortal’s heart” (Charles Beaudelaire)
Baudelaire’s observation addresses the transformation of major parts of Paris in the 19th century, but particularly applies to metropolises in countries that underwent or are undergoing economic and political transformations of socialist to market-oriented paradigms. If taking into account that the fugitive appearance of a city tells the story of its economic, political and social transformations most vividly where the evident of these processes escape the obvious, and, that the city is a metaphor for the human psyche (Freud), we want to investigate, visualize and compare these formations of structures and consciousness with means of design and design research. Berlin and Hanoi serve as first case studies, cities like Shanghai, Havana, Moscow, Budapest may follow. The project is aimed at showcasing the findings in a travelling exhibition.
