This mashup is a companion to a forthcoming article entitled "Composition in the Dromosphere," to be published in Computers and Composition.
The mashup is a response to DJ Spooky's film, Rebirth of a Nation. It incorporates Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s song “Deep Cover” (a song also referred to as “187”). It also pulls together scenes from Spooky’s remix, the music video for “Deep Cover” (a video that also contains footage from a film by the same name), footage from The Birth of a Nation, portions of another remix of The Birth of a Nation entitled “Burn Hollywood Burn” (named after a song by Public Enemy, a rap group that also produced a song called “Rebirth of a Nation”), scenes from Apocalypse Now, and scenes from Star Wars. The voiceover of Spooky's Rebirth of a Nation explains that D.W. Griffith's compositional methods have been a major influence on various filmmakers (including George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola).
