Black and white photographs showing a posing Isadora Duncan mark the starting point for this duet. Instead of reconstructing the natural harmonic flow of movement described by Duncan in her manifesto „The Dance of the Future“, in this piece the single image-fragments are examined for their queer potential. Turned into porous surfaces, more than 2000 years of western tradition in depicting the female body start to shimmer through.
In the contrast between clearly-visible antiquated movement vocabulary and the contemporary bodies that perform it, the seemingly natural feminine gestures reveal themselves as a cultural construct. Uncoupled from sex and gender facial expressions and poses are deciphered as learnable codes imprinted into our Western Bodies.
