At the age of 12, Sydney Sullivan was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis type 2, a chronic disease in which the body's immune system attacks the liver and causes inflammation and liver damage. She learned at that time that she was in end-stage liver disease and had severe cirrhosis of the liver. She was told she would be on immunosuppressants for the rest of her life and would most likely need a liver transplant. Her doctor also informed her that one of her medicines (Prednisone) would cause weight gain.
Being a 12-year-old girl, of all the things she heard that day, "weight gain" is what stuck in her mind and scared her the most. On the way home from that visit she ate her very last hamburger and french fries. She immediately changed her eating habits, started doing CrossFit, and very quickly developed an extraordinary passion for the sport and way of life. In March of 2015, just two and a half years from the time she was diagnosed, she won 1st place in the female 14/15 teenage division of The CrossFit Open and went on in July to win 1st place in the worldwide CrossFit Games and earn the title of Fittest Teen on Earth.
Sydney's teaser for the film has already garnered 15,000 organic views on Facebook, hearing her story you cannot help but root for her.
