The Kombucha Papers is proceeding the work The Fermentation Act, previously installed at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa. Through humidifiers placed in the exhibition space, water has been abstracted from the air and used for fermenting tea into kombucha, an ancient way of purifying and preserving drinking water. This kombucha now creates the base for the work The Kombucha Papers.
All paper used by the administration of the museum, both internally and externally, will be dyed in kombucha, dried, pressed, stamped and numbered, rendering each piece of paper unique.
With The Kombucha Papers SUPERFLEX is closing the production circle by redistributing the work back into the world and engaging not only the visitors of the museum but the administrative core of the museum.
